Pearl Producing Snail Being Guarded

Tight security is being imposed at Birmingham’s National sea life Center in Britain to protect a giant sea snail.

The giant zebra snail or Melo melo measures 20 times the size of the usual British garden snail.

The snail produces rare and valuable pearl that can be fetched anything from 5,000 to 30,000pounds each.

The snail can make any object that gets inside its shell a pearl and the biggest recorded pearl that it made was the size of a golf-ball.

Mr. Graham Burrows, the curator of the aquarium / museum said that they need to be vigilant because some unscrupulous people might attempt to kidnap the snail hoping that its shell contains hidden treasure. There were also CCTVs installed in the different areas of the vicinity for additional security measures.

Price of Crude Oil

The price of crude oil has gone down from $140.00 per barrel to $102.50. It is very interesting to note that when the price of oil increases, the price of gas immediately increases but why it is that when it goes down, the price of gas does not immediately decrease?

The decrease on price of oil was due to the oversupply of it and also the fact that the US has cut down its demand of crude oil due to the slowing economic growth.

To date, the price this year of crude oil ranges from 90.05 - 146.50.

Swedish Wrestler Threw Bronze Medal

Ara Abrahamian was so angry at the outcome of his game with an Italian wrestler named Andrea Minguzzi.

Ara in blue, Andrea in red

Abrahamian took the medal from his neck. stepped from the podium, then, threw it down on the mat, on which he played earlier, his greco-roman bronze medal. He said that he does not care about the medal he won. Instead, he protested that he want gold and announced, also, that he was quitting the sport.

The famous bronze medal

As the Swedish fans of Abrahanian was booieng the officials, the wrestler shouted at the judges and referees. He, then, went to where they seat to speak up close to them. His teammates were restraining him that he might do something "physical" as he was protesting to the officials.

The wrestler was saying that his loss was totally unjustified since his friends called him just 20 minutes before the competition, begging him to compete.

Is he saying that he was not prepared? What if his teammates would beg him like an hour before the competition and he lose? Okay, what if a month before and he lost, would he still be as bitter?

His coach Leo Myllari said that Abrahamian lost due to politics.

Abrahamian was a silver medalist at Athens 2004 and he was eyeing for gold at Beijing Olympics but he only got bronze.

Is this his closing curtain and how he wanted to be remembered, since he said that the said event was his last match?

He will now be known as "Ara Bitter"

Unofficial Sport in the Olympics

Do you know what the unofficial sport in Beijing 2008 Olympics is? The answer is Sex.
100,000 free condoms are being given away to the 10,500 delegates to protect them of sexually transmitted diseases. If we divide it, there would be 9 condoms for each athlete.

Along with the condoms being given are sex education pamphlets in different languages.

The condoms were donated by China Reproductive Health Industry Association.

It is good to know that the Olympic Committee is protecting not only the Olympic delegates but their sexual health as well.

"I Am Rich" iPhone Application

Tom, Dick and Harry or most people who have white collar jobs own the new 3G iPhone. But what could make a real rich person who owns a 3G iPhone different from the rest?
For sure you will be as shocked as I was when I learned that the real rich ones have installed a new application for the iPhone which is called "I Am Rich". Its price is $999.00, and if you want to know what it does, well, it does not do anything! The application only displays a red bright gem! That is it!

The red gem only reminds the owner of the iPhone that he can afford to install it in his phone.

Armin Heinrich, the maker of the program said that the application only marks the owner from the others who doesn't have it installed. Does that mean he is saying that a person who have not installed the "I Am Rich" application poor? it is like, "Hmmm, yeah you have a 3G iPhone but you do not have the $999 application so that means you are not as rich as I am."

Who is insecure now?

Montauk Monster - Real?

The Montauk Monster photos are scattered over the net and many have raised their eyebrows if it really exists.

Three women, Rachel Goldberg, Courtney Fruin and Jenna Hewitt, have discovered and photographed the remains of the animal and told the interviewers that they gave the animal to a surf boy named "Colin", to keep the bones as evidence.

In my humble opinion, I don't believe that the monster exists. It looked like a dead animal, like a dog, a raccoon or a water rat, which was photographed and then enhanced by Photoshop. The dead animal also looks like a new specie because it was bloated. The first time I saw the photo, I knew right then and there that it was computer enhanced. See the photo below and you be the judge.

Exercise Pill

Every year, millions of dollars are being spent on exercise machines and diet pills, in fact, diet program is one of the biggest businesses in the US and other developing countries.

Many have thought of ways on how to lose pounds of fat in their body. No matter if it costs a lot, just so a person could have a whistle-bait body.

However, scientists are also continually improving their experiments to give to the people the body they desire with a little or no sweat. And to erase the "no pain, no gain" saying, they come up with a pill that signals the body that it is exercising, though it is not lifting a finger.

The "exercise in a pill" scientist said it could help battle the frailty of old age ... or help lazy couch potatoes get a six-pack.

The biologist who formulated the pill said that when they had done studies on inactive mice, it resulted in boosting their fat burning and increasing stamina.

It is tricking the muscle into believing it's been exercised daily.

The drug works by by tapping into the molecular pathways that normally reprogram muscle in response to exercise.

Have we forgotten that the exercise is not only for our body to be lean and fit but also for our heart to pump in a normal way?

Melon That Tastes Like Lemon - Lemlon

Yeah, you got that right! Some weird agriculturist or botanist had cross-bred the melon to the lemon and the result...A Lemlon!

I do not know if what variety it is. If it is a variety of lemon or melon but it went on sale last week in UK.

Tesco, who sold the fruit said it resembles the honeydew melon but has "zesty, fresh" taste of a traditional lemon and said it was produced from Spain.

It is the latest in a series of exotic fruits to be sold in UK supermarkets which would only a couple of years ago seemed odd or weird to most shoppers.

Lemlon, which is being sold for £1.99, has a high level of citric acid content which is double than that of the regular melons which resulted to a tangy after-taste.

Manila Police Cars run by Cooking Oil

The price of petroleum products are increasing every week, thus the police here in Manila have adapted a new way on how to conserve money and diesel.

The police cars which the police in Manila use, are now being powered by a bio-fuel product. Instead of pure diesel, they added a new ingredient which is the used cooking oil being donated by McDonalds', a fastfood chain.

The first procedure is to purify the used cooking oil in a purifier first, then mix diesel in the purifier.

The Makati police would be the first to benefit from this bio-fuel.

A mixture of 60% diesel and 40% bio fuel must be poured into the diesel tank so that the process could work. The inventor, a Filipino engineer, perfected this procedure.

There are so many products available which can be transformed into bio fuel and among those are, coconut oil and janitor fishes which when burn could yield so much oil.

For those who do not know, the Philippines has so many janitor fishes in its rivers and lakes.

Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe

Some people all over the world are panicky over high inflation in their respective country and we are worried that the paycheck we are receiving is not enough for our day to day expenses. But we must be thankful that we do not live in Zimbabwe. I am not saying that it is a bad country. What I am driving at is that the inflation in their country is increasing rapidly.

Check out the graph below, the exchange rate of Zimbabwe Dollar against the Euro staggered from May to June of the same year.

The bank note below is the highest denomination note ever released in any country.

Here in Manila, people can buy 3 eggs for Php12.00. Look at the photo below and see how many eggs could a 100billion Zimbabwe dollars buy.

The government of Zimbabwe is even having hard time looking for papers to print their money. They are struggling to find enough cash also to pay its workers, and more importantly the military, after it was forced to severely cut back on printing money because sanctions severed its supply of banknote paper from Europe.Paper money was already in desperately short supply because the state-run Fidelity Printers Refiners in Harare was unable to keep up with the demand created by hyperinflation and rapid devaluation that had caused notes to lose almost their entire value within weeks of being issued.

Bikes in Paris

Due to the increasing price of gasoline, the government officials have thought of a way on how to help its people and the tourists on how to roam Paris.

This July, Paris launched Vélib'. 20,000 red-painted bikes will be displayed onto the city streets for locals and tourists alike to peddle around to their heart's content.

The riders must insert a credit card into a special bike rack in order to release one of the bikes. If it is never returned, the user is charged €150. If the bike is placed back into another special rack anywhere in the city within half an hour, there is no charge. Every hour after that costs €1.

Most Expensive Lunch

A Hongkong based Chinese investment fund manager of Pureheart China Growth Investment Fund won the chance to have lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett by bidding $2.1 million in the most expensive charity auction ever held on eBay.

Warren Buffet

Zhao Danyang won the auction, with a winning bid of $2,110,100.

Zhao Danyang

The Glide Foundation will receive all the proceeds from the auction. The auction will provide a significant boost to Glide, which provides social services to the poor and homeless in San Francisco. The foundation operates on a $12 million annual budget.

It appears that Zhao and Buffett share a similar investment philosophy.

Zhao and up to seven friends will dine with Buffett at the Smith Wollensky steakhouse in New York City whenever the two men can schedule it. Last year's winners collected their prize only last month. The investment philosophy Zhao's fund describes on its Web site is similar to Buffett's approach of finding companies with an enduring competitive advantage that are selling for significantly less then they are worth.

Buffett, chairman and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is primarily known for his investing success. Berkshire owns more than 60 subsidiaries including insurance, clothing, furniture, jewelry and candy companies, restaurants, natural gas and corporate jet firms and has major investments in such companies as Coca-Cola Co., Anheuser-Busch Cos. and Wells Fargo Co.

But Buffett is also known for his philanthropy.

In 2006, he announced his plan to give away the bulk of his nearly $49 billion fortune over time. Most of his shares of Berkshire stock will go to five charitable foundations, with the largest going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Buffett has been auctioning off lunches online for six years but began auctioning the lunches for Glide off-line in 2000. He offers only one lunch a year.
